Despite that, they managed to fight their way out and through the casualties they inflicted managed to keep the 9th army from dramatically altering the outcome of the war.

We are not only detecting planets that orbit other suns; for the past year, we have begun to image them. I think that's worthy of repeat. We are imaging planets outside of our solar system! In my opinion, Fomalhaut b and HR 8799 represent a milestone in human history in that they are visual evidence of other worlds. It is one thing to say that we have detected a planet using the transit, radial velocity, or gravitational microlensing methods, etc. It is quiet another to say that we have infrared images of those planets. No doubt, in the coming years, many of the 403 (and counting) extrasolar planets will also be imaged. But this is an exciting first step for humanity. How long before we image a terrestrial world, 1 to 2 times the mass of Earth? How long before we detect a verifiable life signature?!
